With the Let Women Speak rallies over gender identity sparking violence in Australia and New Zealand, there have been renewed calls for tolerance and respectful discussion. It is likely the anger was more potent for the fact that the motions had become so anodyne that many assembly members are probably regretting the parsing and pruning.

The astounding thing is that we managed to leverage the change of 21 May 2022 within the confines of a system that inherently favours the status quo, the preferential voting system tending to channel votes back to the major parties.
